“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”
– Maya Angelou
I specialize in individual therapy for adults and adolescents, as well as couple's therapy. Many people enter into therapy with issues they have felt powerless to change. Feeling stuck is a terrible place to be. I am passionate about helping my patients develop a healthier sense of self and gain empowerment to tackle life's stresses.
I delight in each person's uniqueness, and I respect individual traits as having developed over time through one's history and varied life experiences. Therapy is about getting to know one's self, learning to accept personal qualities and even value them. It's not so much about changing the person you are, but finding ways to allow individual traits to work together in effective ways. It is about creating balance.
I use a combination of techniques from the disciplines of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Strengths Based Therapy and Positive Psychology. I tend to be practical in my approach and recognize that lasting change comes from the integration of various healthy tools in one's everyday life. This takes willingness and practice. I encourage my patients to begin with small, concrete steps to develop healthy patterns they can eventually internalize and then rely on to help navigate through times of stress. Empowerment comes from making tools into habits.

What to Expect
I work with my patients individually or as couples. We typically meet weekly for optimal benefit in developing desired insight and change. Over time, we sometimes taper to biweekly appointments. My sessions are generally held in person, as I value the connection this fosters. Although, in some circumstances, I can accommodate telehealth sessions using an easy and secure platform.
In our first session, we will discuss factors that brought you to seek therapy, as well as goals you have for treatment. I will ask some background questions to help me gain an understanding of you. We will discuss how therapy can realistically proceed, and we will create an initial treatment plan. Of course, you will have the opportunity to ask me questions about treatment, as well.
Payment
I accept payment only through private pay. I do not work directly with insurance companies. This allows for more autonomy and leaves the development of your treatment plan up to us. It also affords more privacy. Upon request, I will gladly provide billing statements which can be submitted to insurance companies, some of which reimburse through out of network benefits. I recommend contacting your insurance company to inquire about this option.
It is most convenient to have a credit card on file, so sessions can be automatically charged. Patients often appreciate this as it eliminates the need to take time in session to deal with finances.
